Two Dark Birds // ReservoiR
Due for release on November 16, 2020, RESERVOIR is the fourth album from TWO DARK BIRDS, the critically acclaimed band from The Catskill Mountains.
Many of these songs were inspired by and written to accompany the audiobook version of Nina Shengold’s beautiful new memoir Reservoir Year: A Walker’s Book of Days (Syracuse University Press). The album dives deep into the natural world of the Ashokan Reservoir and the surrounding Catskill Mountains. These mostly instrumental tracks owe a quiet debt to the strange natural folk of Fairport Convention, Bill MacKay & Riley Walker, Leo Kottke, Collections of Colonies of Bees, Nick Drake, John Fahey and to the writings of John Burroughs.
Recorded in Mount Tremper NY during the silent spring of 2020, RESERVOIR was written and performed by Steve Koester with a crew of Hudson Valley & NYC collaborators: Jason Mills, Josh Roy Brown, Carrie Bradley, Ben Wildenhaus, Ira Elliot, Mark Rozzo, and Iris Koester.
The cover features a hand-tinted linocut illustration by Carol Zaloom.
Produced by S. Koester & J. Mills. Mixed by J. Mills.
